Croatia and New Zealand sign agreement to eliminate double taxation
Croatia and New Zealand have taken an important step towards deepening economic cooperation with the signing of a new agreement designed to eliminate double taxation and prevent tax evasion, the Ministry of Finance said on Thursday.
The treaty was signed in Wellington by Croatia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Marko Primorac, who is currently on an official visit to New Zealand, and New Zealand’s Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Social Investment, Nicola Willis.
The agreement creates a more predictable and business-friendly tax environment, easing cross-border operations and supporting stronger trade flows between the two nations.
It also sends a positive signal to investors seeking stable and transparent markets, while confirming the strong political and economic ties that have been steadily developing between Croatia and New Zealand.
During his visit, Minister Primorac met with a number of business leaders and potential investors.
He highlighted Croatia’s commitment to securing stable economic growth, implementing measures that support the development of domestic industry, and strengthening the country’s position in the global market.
Primorac also pointed to Croatia’s favourable credit rating outlook and the wide range of investment opportunities arising from effective use of European funds.
The Croatian delegation held several bilateral meetings with New Zealand ministers responsible for finance, economic development, regional growth and regulatory policy.
Discussions focused on digital transformation, capital market development, innovation, and strengthening economic resilience—areas viewed as key to future cooperation.
“The signed agreement and the constructive meetings we held represent a strong boost to further deepening relations between Croatia and New Zealand,” Minister Primorac said, noting that the new opportunities for cooperation and investment lay the foundation for fresh projects and long-term partnerships.
The visit underscores Croatia’s commitment to expanding international cooperation, creating an attractive and stable business climate, and supporting continuous economic development, while opening the door to new initiatives and investment between the two friendly countries.
