Sber and T-Bank First in Russia to Launch QR-Code Transfers Between Individuals
T-Bank and Sber have launched interbank transfers via QR code. The technology now allows clients of both banks to transfer money to each other using the same code. The solution is focused on maximum convenience for clients and businesses and does not require any additional equipment.
The technology will significantly simplify and speed up the process of money transfers between individuals—especially in situations where it's necessary to collect funds from several people who are clients of different banks. There's no need to spend time entering phone numbers, card details, or searching for the right contact in the address book—the system will input everything automatically. This also eliminates errors in data entry and sending money to the wrong person.
Buyers can instantly pay for goods and services via transfer: it's enough to simply scan the QR code using the native camera or the Sber or T-Bank app. This makes receiving payments convenient for the self-employed and micro-businesses. The new functionality is available to Sber clients using smartphones with the Android operating system version 17.0 and above.
⛶ The QR code can be:
generated in the bank's app,
displayed on screen or in printed form,
sent to messengers and social networks for collecting money,
scanned either through the banking app or via the phone's standard camera.
Dmitry Malykh, Senior Vice President, Head of the "Transactional Banking" Block at Sberbank:
Previously, a QR code for a transfer created in SberBank Online was only available to Sber clients. Now, the same code generated in the Sber app can be scanned by T-Bank clients through their bank's app, and vice versa. This makes QR-code transfers a more universal and technological tool and expands opportunities for convenient and fast transfers between people.
